The nine meter high figure of the Great Chinese Calafati in Vienna's Wurstelprater has seen a lot in its history. On April 12, 2024, Calafati welcomes the Chinese cartoonist Xiao Lin in Vienna. The Wurstelprater in Vienna is showing the first solo exhibition of a Chinese cartoonist in Europe. From April 12th to 22nd, 2024, 150 cartoons by Xiao Lin will be presented in an innovative way in a light and music show on the Kaiserwiese. The exhibition is freely accessible.

Graphic humor has a long tradition in China. The artists use traditional ink painting and calligraphy to add a cheerful touch to everyday Chinese life. Xiao Lin's drawings and texts address broadly human themes such as joy, anger, sadness and happiness, presenting them with simple lines and philosophical depth. All texts are presented with German and English translations.

Xiao Lin (Lin Dihuan), born in 1975, lecturer at Sun Yatsen University in Guangzhou, China. More than five million fans follow his cartoons on Chinese social media.

The exhibition is made possible by the city of Shanghai and reflects its cultural diversity.

At the same time, an exhibition with 30 original works by Xiao Lin is taking place at the Confucius Institute at the University of Vienna.
